Things to Think About When You Hire a Fitness Professional

Not all fitness professionals are equal. Probably not surprising, but there is more variation in this industry (unfortunately) than others and if you are not careful, you may end up without results or injured.

When you are ready to hire someone, see if they include or possess the following qualities to help you succeed: Experience, Professional Ability, Progression, Client Promotion, Personal Struggle.

Lift more at the gym TODAY

You can lift more than you think you can! I see people every day who simply do not realize how strong they actually are. Get closer to knowing the power of your own muscles. Implement these 5 technique tips at the gym today and watch the weights move faster and feel lighter.

Workout Like the Pros

I am not specifically a football fan. I am, however, still an American and being a fitness professional, I naturally gravitate toward and notice all things athletic. I cannot help but appreciate the team-oriented sentiment that accompanies football season and admire the speed, strength, and agility it takes to be a professional athlete. When I'm doing cardio, the sight of an adrenaline-laden athlete mid-play motivates me. I think we all love it! That's how it became the industry it is today.

Fitness Buzzwords: Busted

Beware! The marketing of processed carbs as “healthy” is as savvy as the trend that led to your neon-laced gym shoes. It’s always the same product, but every year they label it according to your perceptions. Granola, for example, could be low fat, all-natural, dairy-free, no sugar added, trans-fat free, gluten free, heart healthy, rich in fiber, a great source of vitamins and high protein. Wow! Sounds amazing right? Yep, that’s how millions of boxes of sugar-laden cereal are eaten guilt-free every single day. Guess what? It’s still processed carbs.

Why Weight Machines Suck and What to Do Instead

The majority of fitness facilities are filled with useless equipment. I have never used a chest press and I rarely have clients use these kinds of machines. I almost exclusively stick to bodyweight, free-weights, and cables.

California vs Texas: Fitness Examined

A fit life has only three parts, and they are not equally weighted. In order of importance, they are:
1. Nutrition
2. Strength/ Muscular Balance
3. Cardiovascular Exercise

Shoulders. Yep, That’s The Title.

I bet you’d rather be doing abdominal and core work but, if you think about it, shoulder width greatly improves how slim your waistline looks. Waistline appearance is heavily influenced by its size relative to the rest of your body. It’s all about proportions! When you increase your shoulder and hip mass your waistline appears smaller! Not only is it slimming, it’s functional. Also, it’s really nice when it’s easy to hold things over your head in real life. You’ll be surprised how light your world feels when you’ve been lifting heavy weights.

Ease Knee Pain and Build Bulletproof Knees

My first non-competitive mode of fitness (outside of things like PE) was running. Long ago, I discovered that with the right music, I loved to run. It was fantastic because I enjoyed it, it kept me fit, and I didn’t need a gym. I ran daily, which I now know was a big mistake. Unfortunately, it wasn’t long before I started to experience knee pain. Initially, I pushed through it, proud of “toughing it out.” But, eventually it became so debilitating that I had to quit altogether. It was not until I became a fitness professional that I learned simple steps to take to acquire and maintain pain-free, bulletproof knees.

The Ultimate Supplements for Your Health and Fitness

Once on-board a formal exercise program, people are motivated to do everything in their power to keep seeing those rewarding results. Reach for these nutritious supplements next time you’re at the grocery to increase your fat burn, ward off cravings, and reduce your risk of disease.

Fight Food Cravings

You’re doing well on your diet. You’ve been watching your calories, getting enough protein, limiting carbs, and the scale shows it. You go out and something tempts you. It’s preoccupying. The fun stops. You tell yourself, “ONE slip won’t change anything!” You cave and then the guilt sets in. The promises for “next time” start and you fear the next weigh-in.

Stop the cycle with these five steps.
